Social Benefits Advocacy Program

The Social Benefits Advocacy Program is available to assist low-income clients experiencing difficulty with applying for and maintaining social benefits.

A Calgary Legal Guidance advocate can:
  • assist individuals with applying for and maintaining Alberta Works, AISH, EI & CPP Disability
  • help individuals with related appeals
In particular, staff can answer questions about benefits and benefits programs, help with filling out forms and explaining policies and legislation. They can also intervene and advocate within various bureaucracies to cut through red tape, and assist clients in conducting appeals in front of various administrative tribunals. We can provide assistance with the following Social Benefits Programs: Social Assistance, AISH (Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped), The Workers' Compensation Board, Employment Insurance, benefits available under the Canada Pension Plan, and any other Social Benefit.
